Statement of Faith

What we believe in:

As an affiliate church of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, we believe:

SCRIPTURE

1.1 We believe that the Scripture, as originally written, is the inspired word of God, and the final authority on all matters of life

Matt. 5:18, Matt 4:4, Luke 16:17, I Thess. 2;13, 2 Tim. 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21.

THE GODHEAD – TRINITY: GOD THE FATHER, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT

1.2 We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons. We believe that these three Persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – are equal in every divine attribute, being inexpressibly holy, eternal, infinite, and perfect. Each member of the Godhead holds distinct but interrelated functions in the work of creation, providence and redemption.

God the Father is an infinite, personal Spirit being, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love.

The Lord Jesus Christ is God’s only begotten Son, was conceived in the flesh by the Holy Spirit. We believe in his virgin birth, his sinless life, his miracles, teachings and his substitutionary and atoning death and resurrection for the sins of all people. He is the God-man, possessing all qualities of both the human and the divine natures. He presently intercedes for all believers.

The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgement. He is the divine agent in the sinner’s regeneration and the believer’s sanctification and gifting, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption

Deut. 6:4, Neh. 9:6, John 14:16-17, I Cor. 8:6, 2 Cor. 13:14, Eph. 2:13-18,

1 Cor. 12:13, Heb. 9:14

HUMANITY

1.2 We believe that humanity was directly created by God in His own image and likeness in a state of innocence and holiness. Humanity through willful disobedience and the enticement of the great temptor, Satan, became sinful, fallen and depraved creatures, spiritually dead in trespass and sins.

Gen. 2:7-15, Isa. 53:6, Acts 17:24-28, Rom. 3:10-12, Rom. 5:12,-19, Eph. 4: 18

SALVATION

1.3 By the love and grace of God, salvation was bought by the death, resurrection and shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. We affirm that believers were chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world according to the sovereign grace of God. When an individual places his or her faith in Christ and is born again by the Spirit of God, he/she is sealed unto the day of redemption. Salvation is offered to the whole human race, for God is “not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance”. We believe that Christ followers should live a life pleasing to God, being conformed to the image of Christ.

John 3:3-21, Rom. 5: 1-9, Eph. 1:1-7, I Tim. 2:4, Titus 2: 14, I Peter 2:24, 2 Peter 3:9,

I John 5:11-13, Rom. 12:1-2, Rom 12:11, I Cor. 3:9, 2 Cor. 6:14-18, Tit. 2:12,

Heb. 12:28-29, I Pet. 2:5-9

THE CHURCH

1.4 We believe in the universal church, the bride of Christ, consisting of all born again persons, living or deceased, and forming a living spiritual body of which the Lord Jesus Christ is the Head. We believe this Church is best expressed locally as an independent body of believers in the Lord Jesus who associate for worship, the ministry of the Word, prayer, the observance of the ordinances, mutual edification, and fellowship. We believe that God has entrusted the members of the local church to “proclaim good news to the poor, proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour”

Matt. 16:18, Matt. 28:18-20, Acts 2:42-47, Eph. 4:25-27, Eph. 5:25-32, I Tim. 3:1-15,

Luke 4:18-19

THE LORD’S DAY: SUNDAY

1.5 The Lord’s Day is our appointed day for corporate worship

Acts 20:7, I Cor. 16:2

FUTURE THINGS

1. THE LORD’S RETURN

1.6 We believe in the visible, personal, bodily, and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ to the earth.

John 14:3, I Thess. 1:10, Titus 2:13, Rev. 1:7

2. THE ETERNAL STATE

1.7 We believe in the existence of Heaven. The Lord Jesus Christ has gone to prepare a place for the believer. We believe that He has rewards waiting for those who have served Him faithfully. We believe in the existence of Hell. We believe in the bodily resurrection of all persons who ever lived; the saved to eternal life and blessedness, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment.

Matt. 25:31-36, Luke 16:19-31, John 5:28-29, John 11:25-26, John 14:2-3, I Thess. 4:16-17, Rev. 20:11-15

ORDINANCES

We believe there are two church ordinances: baptism and the Lord’s supper.

1. BELIEVER’S BAPTISM

1.8 Baptism by immersion in water is a symbol and testimony that the believer who has been baptized has been united in Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. Its importance is stressed in Christ’s Great Commission; “therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”

Matt. 28: 19, Acts 2:41, Acts 8:35-39, Acts 8:12-13, 35-39, Rom. 6:3-5, Col. 2:12

2. THE LORD’S SUPPER

1.9 We believe the Lord’s supper to be the partaking of the bread and the cup as meaningful symbols of the crucified body and shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord’s Supper is to be observed until His return by all who truly believe in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.

Luke 22:14-20, Acts 2:41-42, I Cor. 11:23-30
